This project involved building a seven-story, state-of-the-art library facility within an existing courtyard built originally for horse and carriage. The interior perimeter walls of the new building are the original, ornate, cubic Imperial Danby façade of the courtyard. To complement the existing marble, the design called for using Imperial Danby marble for all paving on the first floor and on most of the walls and floors at the entrance to a new auditorium on the lower level. The blending of the old and new stone produced spectacular results.
This unique project presented formidable construction and logistical challenges, which we felt were successfully met, with a beautiful end result.
